Indy RPGs…

As a follow-up to my prior post on the difficulties of independent game development comes this interview with “Vince D. Weller” of Iron Tower – who is working on a title (for which I’ve been very excited the past year) called the Age of Decadence. He claims costs for his RPG run about $10,000! I’m stunned. But also excited. I hope it sells well and they can continue to make games (they have another title in development, currently referred to as Cyclopean), because they’re doing everything right.

Check out the interview. [resolution-magazine.co.uk]

And from Basilisk Games, we have a sequel on the horizon – Eschalon: Book II. I played the demo for the first game and it kind of reminded me of playing Ultima III way back when. And while I found that enjoyable, I wasnt hooked enough to play the full game. A few of my problems with the title were addressed as problems by the developers, so I am thinking I may get around to Eschalon: Book II. Anyway, they released some screen shots today so you should give it a look. [basiliskgames.com]

  1. Wow, I would have guessed much higher based on the graphics quality and planned features.

I wasn’t that impressed with Eschalon: Book 1, either. I found the price point prohibitive.

    • I really don’t get how Iron Tower is managing it. Maybe they’ve found a bunch of independently wealthy gamer designers who work remotely, already have powerful PCs, and ask only for royalties. :p
